"Computation Engine failed or did not run"

12/24/2010

I purchased ESPanner Plus 2/2010 - entered initial data and ran report - all worked fine (using Parallels on Mac 10.6.5). Updated ESP software in October 2010.

Entered updated personal data today - when I tried to run a report, I received a message "Computation Engine failed or did not run".

Downloaded update again - same problem.

Send me the log file: Help->Support->Save Logfile
lwiliams at esplanner. com &

Don't uninstall and reinstall again. It is almost always a fruitless exercise.

I'm a Mac guy, so all this XXX>XXX>XXX, and the gyrations to accomplish a save don't make much sense to me.

I went to HELP in menu, scrolled to SUPPORT, tabbed on Solving Problems..., and hit Save Logfile, then hit Apply.

It seemed to say that a file would be sent to My Documents - My ESPlanner folder. When I open that folder, its empty.

?????????????

I may have some enlightenment, as I've just solved the same problem.

When I first started ESPlanner this evening (after several months hiatus), it said it needed to update the database. It did so, then I made some changes, then tried to produce a report as usual. I got the "computation engine failed or did not run" notice. I tried creating a log, but that failed, too. Then I came online, and downloaded and installed the update. Again, I got the notice about needing to update the database. But still no report, and the same "computation engine" message.

This time, though, I got a message that the files were not in the default location. That's true, because I'd switched them to "...\My Documents\Finances\My ESPlanner\" from the standard "...\My Documents\My ESPlanner\" Once I switched the customization back to the original location, I could create the report.

This seems odd, as having the customized location worked before. But at least I now don't get the error message.

FYI.
