defined benefit pension value in net worth
How can the future value of a defined benefit pension plan be shown in a net worth statement, and where would it be listed in esplanner? The value is substantially more than the contributions over the years. I am also trying to figure out where all my retirement savings contributions should go; They are pension, 457 def comp, and roth ira. Thanks,
Gary

HI GARY, SINCE DB PENSION BENEFITS GENERALLY COME AS A FLOW OF INCOME, WE DON'T SHOW THEM AS AN ELEMENT OF YOUR NET WORTH, WHICH IS A STATEMENT OF THE NET MARKET VALUE OF YOUR FINANCIAL AND REAL ASSETS. THE REAL ISSUE FOR YOU IS, HOWEVER, NOT YOUR NET WORTH, BUT, RATHER, WHAT THE PROGRAM RECOMMENDS YOU CAN SPEND ON CONSUMPTION OVER TIME. THAT RECOMMENDATION FULLY INCORPORATES YOUR FUTURE DB PENSION. BEST, LARRY
