Error message -- won't run report

I bought the software a couple years ago and never used it. I finally got around to using it today. After inputting all the information it requests, I tried to run the reports and I get an error message with the following text:

"An unexpected error has occured:
'Biros_Basic Profile_Main_report4.xls' could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct.

If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.

Please use the Send button to e-mail this error to us. If you are
unable to send from here, use your regular e-mail application and include the file ESPERROR.TXT (found in the application directory). With your description of what you were doing when the error occured and this file and we will be able to resolve the problem more quickly.

Select YES to attempt to continue, NO to EXIT or CANCEL to disable further messages"

I do not know where the file is stored. I looked under the ESP folder and did not find it there. I do a search and cannot find it. But they clearly show up in the ESP software menu, so it clearly exists. What do I need to do to run the reports?

There should be a folder: My Documents\My ESPlanner if you're using XP or earlier. I won't run Vista or 7 due to bugs in both and compatibility issues with our development tools but that's where things should be on XP. You may have some skew in your installation, so a reinstall of the product may not be a bad idea. At least check out the customize tab and make sure you're pointing things at the default directory.

There have been major improvements in the product in the last couple of years. You would be well advised to pay for an upgrade and install that before trying the product. I can tell you right now, that any problem you report would be answered with "upgrade and if the problem still exists, we'll look at it".

I've run into a similar problem when running a report, with an error that reads something like "report generator failed or did not start".
The error meesage pops up after 3-1/2 minutes of running (verified using Task manager, CPU runs at 100% for 3.5 minutes, then error message pops up).

This is on a PC running Windows XP. These reports ran fine until yesterday, when I upgraded to the latest version - 2.17.

I have all my financial files in a My Documents subfolder named "financials". When I installed ESPlanner last year, I specified all ESP files to go into /financials/ESPlanner . As a result the install process never created the folder named "/My Documents/My ESPlanner".

I just created the folder a few minutes ago (using Windows Explorer) and ESPlanner now runs fine. So there's no need to reinstall the whole package, just creating the missing folder will fix the problem.

If they are in the ESPlanner list it doesn't mean that the file exists. This probably why you get the error. The reports are stored in the output directory specified under Help->Customize. You can delete that file just like any other file.

So, make sure, as the message suggests, that the directory is appropriate. The installer doesn't always guess right
