When I run reports it shows that I owe FICA taxes in 08 & 09 yet I have no income. I retired (my wife thinks unemployed!) in 05 and have not worked since, the report shows no income for me,yet shows FICA taxes?
Also, when ES calculates Federal and state taxes due does it assume any deductions other than for the mortgage interest and I assume personal deduction for the two of us?

We would have to look at your database to see what's going on with the FICA stuff. We certainly haven't seen anything like that in our testing and regressions. The basic deductions are the standard deduction and exemption, property tax, and state tax. If you are using the special expenditures interface and have specified deductible expenses, then those are used as itemized deductions and the right thing happens (the bigger of the standard and itemized deductions are used).
