Future Vacation Home

I'm having trouble entering a future vacation home (I read the earlier post regarding this same issue and can't seem to get my file to work).

Here's the situation: No current vacation home, so I am entering data in the "First Change of Vacation Home" screen. The Change in Vacation Home box at the top of this screen is left unchecked (if I check the box, my inputs dissappear). When I exit this folder and then return, my inputs for % down payment, mortgage interest rate, and annual appreciation rate are gone, and the annual appreciation rate field defaults to negative 20% (which was the default number showing up in this field before I started entering data). All other inputs are still there (purchase price, property taxes, insurance, etc.). When I run the PDF report and the Excel spreadsheets, nothing shows up for future vacation home.

Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,

Rick

Rick,

It's pilot error (and our fault for not having the inputs off completely if you haven't checked the box). If you click the future vacation home first, you should be able to enter your data. We'll make it more obvious that things aren't turned on unless you've got the box clicked.

I checked this with the 2.10.6 update currently available from esplanner.com.

Thank you. That worked.

I may have spoken too soon as I just noticed a few glitches with the future vacation home.

The amounts relating to the future vacation home appear to be included in the detail reports as I see the future downpayment and additional housing expenses showing up in the housing report, and I see the new mortgage showing up in the total spending report, and I see the vacation home equity showing up in the net worth report. However, when I look at the Inputs and Assumptions section of the PDF report ("First Change in Housing") I don't see all of the information listed (purchase price and mortgage interest rate are missing from the Vacation Home column).

Additionally, after I run the PDF report and return to the Vacation Home folder in ESP, I notice that the right side of the "First Change of Vacation Home" tab is all zero's (% down payment, interest rate, years of mortgage, and appreciation rate). I'm not sure if this is affecting the PDF report though because, as I mentioned above, the information and calculations appear to be included in the detail sections of the PDF report. I'm just a little confused why the information is dropping off the data entry screen.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Rick

I took a look and can't reproduce the behavior you describe not seeing the vacation home in the inputs section of the PDF. If you're still seeing that problem, please go to the support area, open a ticket and upload your database.

You can find instructions for uploading the database on the FAQ pages and inside ESPlanner by clicking HELP->Support
