How to copy and access a second database

I want to enter separate profile for myself and my husband. Before I begin entering data, is there a way to copy the database. And after it is copied how do I access it. Thank you.

I hope this doesn't sound too "techie" but the way I do it is to first make a copy of the database file. Just go find espdatabase.mdb and copy it and give it a new name in the same way you'd copy any file. You can name it whatever you want so long as you leave the .mdb extension.

Then, I "right click" on the file and use the "open with" in the flyout menu to select ESPlanner. There is an option there to check to "always open with this program." If that works, then you'd "associated" this file type (.mdb) with ESPlanner.

Now, you merely need to double click that copied file in order to run it in ESPlanner.

I was able to copy the databse. When I try to do "open with" it says it can't find it. It offers a list which does not include ESPlanner or the internet.

How should this be handled?

Thank you.

Not sure, by the way, why are you including "internet?" Are you referring to ESPlanner BASIC?

To add ESPlanner to the list, select choose program and add ESPlanner

Here's how it works in Windows XP. When you right click the database file you may need to select "Choose Program..." which will bring up a list. If ESPlanner is not listed there then select the "Browse..." button and navigate to the program - this is typically at C:\Program Files\ESPlanner and the file to select is "ESPlannerPlus.exe" or "ESPlanner.exe", depending on the version you have.

Thanks for all the help. I believe I have it set up properly now.
The next challenge will be entering all the data!

Just remember that you don't need all the data to actually get started. You can enter stuff and see how things evolve as you get closer and closer to your actual financial position. It's fun (in a geeky sort of way) to do this.
