How to smooth for early retirement?

Hi. Running 2.9.61

I plan to retire early, live off my taxable assets, spending them to 0. Then start early withdrawal of my retirement funds (if needed) and live off that until judgment day.

Using ESP I set the retirement account age at first withdrawal to 65, that was too late. Then I set it at 55, that was too early. Right now I'm iterating through the years by hand.

Can I get ESP to optimize when I start spending my retirement funds?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, ESPlanner doesn't optimize retirement account withdrawals. You just have to try different withdrawal starting dates and see which will deliver a smooth living standard path. Try taking Social Security at 70, by the way. best, Larry

Ok, I'll binary search for the right date to start withdrawals from my retirement account.

Interesting idea about pushing out social security. It does make a difference. At the same time, it's one more thing to iterate on.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, Sorry, but there is no option in the program to tell it to automatically try different initial retirement account withdrawal start years. You just have to try different start years one by one. best, Larry
