What is the total amount of money spent from birth to death on average, in America? I'm interested in the grand total, on average, including everything from health costs to living expenses, recreation, food, vacation, etc., etc. Can anyone point me to a source where this has been computed in a rigorous fashion?

You might try www.wolframalpha.com for something like this. It's a pretty obscure statistic. Maybe Larry will have a pointer.

Thanks, I found annual per capita GDP ($46K). If I just assume we consume every dollar we produce, and plug in an average life expectancy of 80 years, I guess that would be a reasonable figure? Then again, it doesn't take into account borrowing, printing money, the import/export disparity...
