Survivor Reports
I'm confused by the survivor reports titles. Is the "Husband's Survivor Report" the results if the wife dies & the "Wife's Survivor Report" the results if the husband dies?
The confusion arises because of the following: In "Contingent Plans", I entered a special expense under wifes special expense if husband is deceased. However, in the pdf report, this amount shows up in the Husband's Survivor Reports" and all the other data in the husbands survivor report are clearly the husbands.
Also, why do the survivor reports show data beyond the date I selected for early death in the "report options" survivor results screen?
I would greatly appreciate if this could be explained
Thanks,
James

James,
The special expenses is a bug we're working on now (I think). Hopefully we'll have it straightened out soon. The work around is to enter the data backwards for now (wife's special expenses under husband and vice versa).

Dick,
Thanks for the response. I'll hold off running a contingent plan until the bug is fixed. Can you provide me with an understanding concerning my second question.
"Why do the survivor reports show data beyond the date I selected for early death in the "report options" survivor results screen?"
Thanks,
James

That we'll have to take a look at. We've had fencepost errors in the past, I thought we had all that straightened out.
Best,
Dick Munroe
James: I'm just curious. When you say "shows data beyond the date I selected" which report page are you referring to that shows this data?
The reports are supposed to show data beyond the date (i.e., after the date) you select to kill off yourself or your spouse. I'm just trying to see if I see the same thing as you.
Best,
Dan
Dan,
In "Report Options," I select "Survivor Results" and set our early death ages to a few years beyond our current age. In the pdf report, both "Survivor Reports" show income, spending and all other items associated with each person continuing until 94 years, our maximum age of life set in "Demographics."
I must be misunderstanding the survivor report. I thought it would show me the financial implications to each of us when the other person dies young. I guess the question I need to ask is how do I model the implications if one of us dies young?
Thanks
James
Yeah, you got it. When you look at "James's Survivor Report" you are looking at the new numbers when you are the only one alive. It should begin at the age you said that your spouse/partner dies.
There are about 11 pages when you expand your PDF to reveal survivor reports. The first one is Annual Recommendations. You'll see there your new saving, consumption, and living standard report. Because of the insurance recommendation, your living standard should be at least as high it was with both alive.
Because you are alive, your report extends clear until your death at 95 or whatever you set.
Then if you look at the other person's report, you'll see the living standard there of the other survivor's numbers in the event of your early death. It extends to 95 or 100 as well of course.
So you say to yourself: These main reports show us both alive. Then there are two survivor reports, one to show with you only alive and the other to show your spouse/partner only alive.
It seems like you are just an "oh, I get it" away from seeing it.
Dan
Dan,
My error. I get it!. Of course, each survivor report is independent.
Thanks for setting me straight.
Mr Munroe, Please ignore my previous posting regarding this.
